Technology- Christmas Gifts

For Term four in Kahikatea Team we are doing Technology. Our motto is 'See-A-Need, Fill-A-Need'. We are looking at problems in our school and finding solutions for it. My group of Mason, Paige and I did Christmas Gifts because more people buy Christmas gifts that are expensive and they don't have enough money for food, clothing or any other necessities for their family. So, homemade Christmas gifts are perfect for any family. We had made 28 stars with glitter on top by all of us. 2 clay pots made by Paige, and 6 candles that I made. We love helping others, especially friends. Our Inquiry books have everything that we have done this term.

MOTAT 2015

Kahikatea Team have had a trip to MOTAT. The exciting thing was the Laser Maze. The interesting site was making the marble tracks. Once we started, everyone sprinted to the table of equipment. Frosiking through the widgets and gadgets. We all had to make a track on boards that were covered in holes large enough for the tiny sticks to help create the marble track. The next thing was a TRAM RIDE!! The elderly tram driver was an experienced driver. He told us about the history of MOTAT's Trams and how the engineering of the trams work. He had shown us a couple of the joysticks to operate the tram. The seats were very bouncy and comfortable. I found that at MOTAT was EXTREMELY fun. Especially the CHALLENGE ZONE. There were hand batteries, and musical pipes, AND an Infinity Mirror. I enjoyed our trip to Auckland, to MOTAT. On the way back to school the Waipa River had FLOODED!!! I think that if you like history and old day inventions. Come along to MOTAT!!!!

Production 2015

Eight weeks of hard work has now all been paid off. For the production I was a Maori girl doing the poi. I really liked it. When I was practicing it seemed really complicated, I almost hesitated to do it. Eventually I started to enjoy it. Mrs Hobbs sister Tracey taught me how to do the two poi in one hand. I found that fun to do. Poi practicing was a challenge that I had to face and not hide from. I recommend that if there is anyone that wants to do an emotional dance the poi will be perfect. When you use the poi in dances like Kapa Haka the poi are meant to be graceful so the slower you can get and stay in time with the beat of the song. I love swinging the poi. Maori dancing and performing is my favourite thing to do.

Room 9 speeches

In Term 2 we learnt about argument writing. So we wrote our speeches and we had to pay attention, of course and in a week or so Room 9 finished their speeches. Here is my speech. I hope you like it.

The Boat - Asarina

The Boat-Asarina Johnson

Once a boat,
Sailing on the sea,
In beautiful blue skies,
Saw the amazement down beneath.

All was well,
Until it came,
A storm raging on,
A huge disgrace.

This boats beauty,
All taken away,
By the cruelty of the sea,
All washed away.

The ribs and bones,
All are left,
As green grass grows,
Now the boat is left at death.

No more love and adventures,
No specialty at all,
All there's now is:
Left to fall.

A boat all gone,
Covered in disgrace,
A boat so special,
No more.

The Hydra slide!!

The Hydra slide

Excitedly I bounce to the top of the hydra slide. Carefully wrapping myself into the mat waiting silently.

Below me, the bottomless river awaits. Sliding down, horrifically I fall to my fate.

Hovering, Puffy white clouds drift over the river, now I'm in the comfortable kayak. Skidding, I tuck myself into the envious
kayak as I glide across The calm river.
Now I paddle back.
